Dave Gilbert

“As I await direction from God as to his purpose for allowing me to survive cancer, I am grateful life is so wonderful.”

— Dave Gilbert, cancer survivor.

For Dave Gilbert, the two-year battle to overcome stage IV Non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt lymphoma has been a life-affirming event. He was just getting comfortable in his new role as Executive Director of Visit Corvallis, when an appointment with his physical therapist turned up this unexpected and virulent, fast-growing cancer. After six powerful chemotherapy sessions, Dave is now cancer-free, but still deals with the side effects of the regimen. He was one of the celebrating survivors in this year’s Puttin’ on the Pink Style Show, which helps fund Project H.E.R.

Cath Kendrick

“It’s a huge privilege to be invited into something that’s such an important part in a person’s life.”

— Cath Kendrick, cancer survivor and Project H.E.R. volunteer.

Cath Kendrick knows only too well how important caring, education, enlightenment, and support are to someone diagnosed with cancer. The disease claimed the lives of her mother and a first-cousin, and has stricken nearly every close female relative. Cath is an eight-year cancer survivor herself.
For more than seven years now, Cath has also been a volunteer mentor for Project H.E.R, doing everything from accompanying patients to their doctor’s appointments, taking notes for patients, talking with them about their experiences, and helping them through the process. Cath Kendrick is the 2014 Susan Merrill Spirit of Survivorship award recipient.

Puttin’ on the Pink Recognized

After raising more than $142,000 for breast cancer services in 2012, Puttin’ on the Pink also has received a national cancer awareness award. The Corvallis Clinic Foundation’s gala fundraiser celebrating cancer survivorship earned the Judge’s Choice award from the national Cancer Awareness Advertising Awards program.

Puttin’ on the Pink was honored as the top entry for informing and educating the community about cancer risk factors, early detection, as well as diagnosis and treatment services available.

“It is so rewarding to know that a heartfelt event, such as Puttin’ on the Pink, can be further recognized for the visibility we bring to the community about our cancer survivors,” said Judy Corwin, Foundation and Marketing Director at The Corvallis Clinic. “This recognition was a team effort _ one that is shared by those who made the event so successful with all of those who supported it!”

The pink carpet event at the CH2M-Hill Alumni Center in October 2012 raised money for Project H.E.R. (the initials stand for Help, Enlightenment and Resources), which provides awareness, education and support for women in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties facing breast cancer.

Entries in the Cancer Awareness Advertising Awards are judged by a panel of healthcare marketing experts representing all aspects of medical advertising throughout the industry. Puttin’ on the Pink competed against entries from across the country, as well as from Canada and South America.

Generosity Heals Community Matters Spring 2011

We are grateful to all the people and sponsors who have made this year such a success. Your generosity has helped to heal someone physically and in spirit. We cannot thank you enough, and we want to share with you some of the 2010 successes of which we are very proud.

In 2010, The Corvallis Clinic Foundation received more than $178,000 in charitable gifts, grants, and pledges from generous contributors. These gifts helped cancer patients, students pursuing health care careers, and individuals with no health insurance who needed medical care.

  • Puttin’ on the Pink Education Day and Style Show raised $125,000 in gross revenue for local breast cancer patients and support services. More than 150 women attended Education Day on Oct. 12, 2010, and 350 attended the Style Show on Oct. 16.
  • Our Annual Fund Campaign received more than $24,000 in gifts and pledges from 130 physicians and employees. These charitable gifts will support the United Ways of Linn, Benton & Lincoln Counties, Community Outreach, the Mario Pastega House, and scholarships.
  • Oregon State University Athletic fans contributed $9,000 toward Project H.E.R. through Pink events held for OSU women’s gymnastics in January, women’s basketball in February, and volleyball in October.
  • In 2010, The Corvallis Clinic and Clinic Foundation completed a three-year pledge commitment of $25,000 to the Linn-Benton Community College Foundation for its new Science Building.
  • Project H.E.R. nurses and clinicians taught 24 self-breast exam classes, reaching 380 women Linn, Benton, and Lincoln counties. Outreach focused on more rural areas in Lincoln and Linn counties.
  • Project H.E.R. nurses and clinicians participated in 27 outreach events to increase awareness of breast cancer prevention. Outreach activities included the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Eugene, Corvallis Knights, Pink Outs, and Lunafest.
  • Eight high school and university students were awarded scholarships to pursue health career studies. Students headed to Oregon State University, Linfield College, and Linn-Benton Community College, among others, to pursue their educational goals.
  • Seven individuals received Emergency Funds to help them through hardships in these economic times. Foundation grants supported their medical care, human needs and unforeseen family circumstances so they could stay in the workforce and get back on their feet.

On behalf of The Corvallis Clinic Foundation, thank you for your generosity and the commitment you have to others in our community.
